ALOHA Plant-Based Protein Bars

I had tried the ALOHA Bar a long time ago and didn't think much of it. This last year I've started seeing them pop-up in my Instagram Reels, at Grocery Stores, and... really just all over the place. They clearly got some marketing dollars recently. I decided it was time for another try. And it was one of the best decisions I've made this year.

The Ingredients

Quality of ingredients doesn't get much better than this. I think the ALOHA Bar hurts itself by calling itself a "Protein" bar. This isn't something I'd take with me for a post-workout recovery. It's more of an all-around nutrition bar with a well balanced set of Macros that kept me well energized and staved off hunger cravings throughout the day. Anyone who isn't Keto would do well to incorporate this into their day.

The Macros

All of the flavors have 14g of protein, 8-12g of fat, and around 15g of net carbs. Most were also packed with 9-10 grams of fiber, which over 90% of people don't get enough of!

Seed Oils

Many of the flavors don't have any Seed Oils. I reached out to the company to ask about the flavors that do contain sunflower oil and they let me know that all flavors with Sunflower Oil actually use high-oleic Sunflower Oil. And there's a HUGE difference between the two when you're talking about heating temperature and inflammation from seed oils. With how big of a deal Sunflower Oil has become, it's really beyond me why they wouldn't clarify that on their label.

Sugars and Sweeteners

I'm someone who is okay with Stevia, but many of my friends can't stand its aftertaste or claim it causes them headaches. ALOHA doesn't use Stevia in any of their products, instead they use 3-5g of sugar and some also use Monk Fruit. Finally, a low sugar bar that isn't relying on Sugar Alcohol sweeteners to trick your body into having a GI response in exchange for zero sugar. I'll take low sugar over sugar alcohol any day.

The Taste and Texture

My usual problem with protein bars is that they look like they taste a lot better than they actually do. I think the opposite is true with ALOHA. Their bars look pretty average but have a nearly perfect soft, non-chalky texture that's easy to bite into. And the flavors are some of the best I've ever tried, with no nasty protein or sweeteners aftertastes.

My favorite 5 flavors in order were:

Craveable?

Yes, I looked forward to eating one every single day. Some days I ate one for breakfast and one for lunch.

Filling?

These ALOHA Bars fit in the realm of snack & meal replacement bars, and they do a great job at that. Some mornings I would skip breakfast, eat an ALOHA Bar around lunch time and it would hold off any hunger cravings through dinner time. If I was in a weight cutting mode I would probably use these to help limit my daily calorie intake.

I never felt bloated nor had any gastrointestinal stress while eating these, which for me is a VERY real fear when trying anything Vegan or with a good amount of fiber.

Final Thoughts

If you're looking to try out a new snack bar, I couldn't recommend ALOHA any more. I've found my new favorite daily nutrition bar.
